About
It all started when...
PAM GOOD WIND, EDUCATOR AND ȞUŊKÁ (ADOPTED) RELATIVE OF THE ROSEBUD SIOUX, WITNESSED FIRST HAND THE NEED FOR NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING IN OUR SCHOOLS AND IN OUR SOCIETY.
"I believe that Indigenous culture holds a vast amount of wisdom. The ancestors' realities were based on what they saw in nature and they lived by them. They survived for thousands upon thousands of years on those realities of nature. We have much to learn from them in this modern day where our natural world is slowly being destroyed by the nature of our thinking and actions."
“IF MAN IS TO SURVIVE, HE WILL HAVE LEARNED TO TAKE A DELIGHT IN THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN AND BETWEEN CULTURES. HE WILL LEARN THAT DIFFERENCES IN IDEAS AND ATTITUDES ARE A DELIGHT, PART OF LIFE'S EXCITING VARIETY, NOT SOMETHING TO FEAR.”
GENE RODDENBERRY
PAM WAS TAUGHT AT A YOUNG AGE HOW TO CONNECT TO NATURE IN ORDER TO LEARN FROM THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.
"Being outside, interacting with nature is central to the very heart of who I am."
LATER HER UNDERSTANDING OF THE ROLE NATURE PLAYS FOR/with HUMANS GREW WHEN SHE LEARNED FROM TRADITIONAL NATIVE AMERICAN ELDERS.
"RESPECT COMES FROM INTIMATE KNOWLEDGE AND DEEP UNDERSTANDING, AND IT IS THE BASIS THE CUSTOMS, PRACTICES, TRADITIONS, AND VALUES THAT COMPRISE THE CULTURE."
JOSEPH MARSHALL III, ROSEBUD SIOUX, AUTHOR OF "TO YOU WE SHALL RETURN"
Good Wind's passion is to help others realize There are diverse ways of learning and encountering the world that have nothing to do with a diploma.
"Indigenous wisdom brings about a profound realization that there is a network of entangled intelligences in nature that work collectively and collaboratively. Humans are a part of that."
"A man's heart away from nature becomes hard; lack of respect for growing, living things soon leads to a lack of respect for humans too. "
Luther Standing Bear
Pam took her passion, her experience as a teacher, her cognizance of NAtive American culture, the need for more cultural understanding in society, and her deep conviction for the responsible care of mother earth and formed Indigenous Roots LLC.
"i love teaching about indigenous culture. we learn by doing, by reflective listening, and with an open mind and heart. The most important understanding I want people to walk away with is the role, actions, and behaviors of a traditional indigenous community. The harmony, the love, the respect, and the unselfishness reverberates into every single action the community takes together. Each of us defines all of us."
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
Nelson Mandela
